It all comes down to taste not whether tomatoes are allowed or not. A gallon of sauce was always needed because when it came to BBQ, that meant whole-hog. Had to drive to Hursey's in Burlington NC last month while visiting a friend to bring 5# of it home. Ive been using this recipe as my starting point for years.
